Here we have a vintage Westone Spectrum ST 4-string bass guitar, made in 1986 in the legendary Matsumoku factory in Japan. For those of you who haven’t come across Westone basses before they were predominantly made in Japan and sold across the world in the 80’s, with many famous players using them. They are solidly made and full of tone. This example is no different!

This particular guitar was made in August 1986. The Spectrum ST first appeared in the 1985 UK catalogue, available in Black or White with chrome hardware (Black hardware optional). It then appeared in the January 1985 US price list and was available worldwide until January 1988 when the model was discontinued and succeeded by the Spectrum I in 1988-89.

The design of the body is unique and the cutaways are a cross between a C shape body (Fender) and the horns of an SG bass (Gibson).

The bass has all of its original parts and its action is set low, playing very nicely. Most importantly, the truss rod works very well. It has some definite signs of use and wear (particularly on the rear of the instrument and one small circular scratch on the headstock) which it has accumulated throughout its lifetime so far. That said, they are purely cosmetic and have no impact on the playability or tone of the instrument.
